Phase I Arch Development Part III: The Bonding Process

2023-11-06T09:40:04-05:00

SUMMARY OF COURSE CONTENTThis 4.5 hour CE course* will review the diagnostic and treatment planning process for pre-adolescent patients, including:

  • The literature regarding the concept of placing braces on primary teeth to assist with “developing the arches” as part of interceptive orthodontic treatment.
  • The effect that placing braces on deciduous teeth has on both the primary tooth and its permanent successor.
  • Effective behavior modification techniques to reliably and comfortably place full braces on 7–9-year-old patients.
  • The types of braces, bracket prescriptions, and wires that can be used to successfully and predictably develop the arches during interceptive treatment.
  • Bonding techniques to improve clinical efficacy, maximize bond strength, minimize bond failure, and greatly decrease the risk of enamel decalcification.
  • The importance of dis-occluding the arches at the initial bonding visit, including strategies for determining the size and location of bite ramps and turbos based upon the presenting malocclusion and treatment objectives.
  • Patient/parent testimonials discussing their experiences with full braces in Phase I will be provided.

Phase I Arch Development Part II: Diagnosis & Treatment Planning

2023-11-06T09:39:22-05:00

SUMMARY OF COURSE CONTENT

This 5 hour CE course* will review the diagnostic and treatment planning process for pre-adolescent patients, including:

  • Taking outstanding clinical photographs.
  • The value of low-dose CBCT images in the diagnosis and treatment planning process.
  • Performing a thorough and comprehensive clinical examination.
  • Evaluating hard and soft tissues on CBCT images, including the nasal passageways, sinuses, nasopharynx, oropharynx, adenoids and tonsils.
  • Using the aforementioned diagnostic information to formulate a treatment plan involving arch development with braces and wires.
  • Effectively communicating this diagnosis and treatment plan to the patient and parent(s) during the consultation.
  • Scripting for team members will also be provided to assist them with both understanding the process of Phase I archwire development with braces and effectively communicating it to patients and parents.

Phase I Arch Development Part I: Expanders vs. Braces

2023-11-06T09:38:42-05:00

SUMMARY OF COURSE CONTENT

This 6.75 hour CE course* will review:

  • The importance of addressing the transverse dimension during orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • The ideal time period to address a transverse discrepancy.
  • The controversy surrounding interceptive/Phase I treatment, especially as it pertains to arch development.
  • The numerous patient benefits of well-timed, well-orchestrated interceptive treatment.
  • The different modalities of arch expansion.
  • Rapid maxillary expansion with traditional Hyrax-type “expanders” will be contrasted with slow maxillary expansion using braces and wires to develop the arches.
  • Multiple cases will be presented to demonstrate how minimally invasive, comfortable, efficient, and profitable interceptive treatment can resolve crowding, eliminate the need to extract premolars, increase patient self- confidence, and improve airway patency. Parent/patient testimonials will also be provided.
